Sub par hardware
Was working great, till it didnt….. company gives you two bolts that are used for compressing the spring. First one lasted 12 springs. Second one lasted 2. Using nothing but hand tools, no impacts, and still the bolts seized on the threads. Had to rent a tool from the local auto parts store to finish the last 2 springs on my LS3 heads

This worked just fine for me. Changed out all 16 stock valve springs with high performance springs for a cam swap. Use hand tools and keep anti seize compound on the threads. No problem. Worked perfect. No brainer for the price.

Get what you pay for, but it worked
Get what you pay for, but it worked for my one set of heads. If i was a mechanic building ls daily, id buy a 100-300$ tool, but I dont. Came with a spare bolt, and i never had to use it fortunately. For all i know this tool could last 2 valve jobs or 10, but for 25$ (sale) i cant complain. Bolt showed wear after 1 set. The key to using this is aligning the springs before compressing. Couple times when it didnt align i had a heck of a time. But is what it it.

Good product, potato instructions.
Was able to complete a set of vavle springs witg no problem. I had no trouble with the hardware like some of the other reviewers. The instructions are beyond sub par, potato class. But after a little trial and error figure out the proper way.
Note that the t plate is offset treaded, so there is a top and bottom to it. Probably should be labeled and the aluminum spacer has a cutout for the head so it only goes on way. If it not flush flip it around. Also a litte oil or tread lube goes a long way and makes it easier to use. Also I never used an impact on the only a shorty racthing wreach which worked great.

Great product with good value
Works great. Not even sure why i considered paying 3 times as much for the same product elsewhere. Hardware is good quality and highly rated so no stretching of the bolt or wearing the nut out too bad. Did a 6.2ls all valve seals and nonproblems what so ever

Makes swapping LS valve springs simple.
I was hesitant to purchase but this thing makes changing valve springs on LS heads simple! It does both the intake and exhaust at the same time. Ive used it on 3 sets now and it only gets easier each time.

Great tool for the price. I have used a single spring setup before, this is nice that you can get two springs at a time.
Michael H.on March 2, 2020
Instructions suck, but it works
For the price, its honestly pretty great. First time Ive ever had to take off valvesprings and this thing honestly made it stupid simple.
Everything is relatively strong, but I wouldnt dare use an impact on it.
The instructions are pretty damn bad, too. Really, dont even bother with reading them. Put the aluminum piece on to the head, put the T shaped steel piece on top of it (after you threaded the long bolt through the bottom), then put the spring compressor on top and start tightening.
For the T piece, theres a top side and a bottom side, but the instructions dont say it and neither does the piece. Youll learned which way is which when you go to put the compressor piece on and it doesnt line up to the springs properly. Just flip it and Id suggest scratching in or writing Top on the correct side.

Worth the money
Easy to use, used it to change out a total of 32 springs and no issues, I would recommend this product. Just a little note, you can use the plate upside down, so when you compress the springs the retainers will come off with the tool. Shows in the directions how to set up the tool, so my fault for using the tool wrong.
Matton March 12, 2020
Not the best
Difficult to line up and get the springs to compress evenly enough to clear the locks. Also, the material is too soft and begins to wear very quickly.

Works great for taking springs off…. but
Works great for taking springs off….. a little tricky to use to installaftermarket double springs and bigger retainers …. had to use a screwdriver to center up the spring and had to use washers on top of the springs to keep them from shifting around…. it will work but its not going to be easy….. keep the bolt oiled and its fine

Buy this, you won’t regret it
I used this on a 2002 C5 Z06. The car has 48k miles and still had yellow springs. I bought the black and brown valve seals and PAC 1218 springs with ngk tr55 plugs.
Everyone in here says the hardware is junk but I took my time, added some oil to the bolt, and everything went smoothly. I looked at reviews on here for how to put everything together and for under $50, you cant beat it.

bobby templeon May 3, 2020
Not worth it
The tool got the job done, but it took about twice as long as it should have. Within the first 3 cylinders the compression plate was warped severly, and it had chewed threw the supplied hardware. Removing stock valves was fine but installing BTR .660s it was a nightmare trying to get the spring and valve lined up to compress them in car as it would warp, twist, spin, and not hold the retainers properly.
Esteban Floreson May 14, 2020
Ok, if I had to do it again, I would buy a name brand for ease.
Black finish fell off while sitting in my garage before I was ready to use it for the first time. The exposed metal then started to rust. I went ahead and used it anyway. After the first set of springs the compressing bolt stripped. I was able to Jerry rig another bolt on and finish the job though.

Decent Tool-Good Value
The cost of this tool is much less than the name brand tools, but you also get what you pay for, if for daily use buy the good ones, for the weekend warrior this is your tool. This particular tool with the provided spacer does not align properly on a 5.3l vortec truck engine, I found that by eliminating the spacer and letting the base plate rest on valve cover boss (stud) it allowed for proper alignment, but be careful not to torque down the bolts in the rocker arm threads, just hand tightening with maybe a little adjustment after compression was all that was necessary. The install process requires a little bit of prying to keep springs centered on valve stems, use a long thin screwdriver between the spring and the compression plate for this, do not pry between the compression plate and base plate of the tool or you will bend the compression plate, at times I had to use a small pry bar to get the leverage needed. I also found that aligning and adjusting the springs at the begging of the compression process as many times as needed to keep them centered on the valve stem helped greatly, dont just throw the tool on and fully compress the spring, pay great attention to centering on the valve stem. Most likely you will still have a larger gap near top top of the spring once fully compressed, this will let you drop in 1/2 of the keeper, this is where you will need to gently pry between the spring and the compression plate to center the spring on the valve, you should be able to use your fingernail to rotate the 1/2 keeper to bottom while gently prying allowing room to install the other half of keeper at least most of the way to the lock groove if not all of the way, if it does not quite set into the groove a long punch and light to medium tap with a hammer will seat the keeper, you can also make small adjustments to the base plate bolts just dont go crazy torquing on them. After figuring these tricks out installation went easily, just requires patience. Two last things…1) Use the compressed air method, I tried TDC method and it can be done but shoving rope in the spark plug hole is not as easy some make it sound, especially on #8 cylinder 2) Apply grease to the keepers, it not only helps them stick, but helps them rotate easier when you are trying to get the 2nd half in place.

Good bang for the buck
Works well but they could make a few improvements with the holes drilled and tapped straight. Also,a simple engraving staying which end is up could keep u from possibly damaging your cyl head and the tool. This is probably the best cheap valve spring tool you can buy.

Williamon September 1, 2020
Not worth the hassle.
The threads in the block where poorly cut, After finally the center bolt threaded, it chewed the threads and I had to cut it down to useable threads. The hole was kinda off center and caused the valve springs to push out some so I had to grind down the sides. I ended up having to tac weld the center bolt into place cause the nut would get so gummed up with high temp grease and metal shavings that it would lock up. I would not recommend this to anyone that does not plan on having to modify it to work.
Brandon Harrisonon September 6, 2020

This guy is a must have if youre looking to pour and Ill replace your valve springs, retainers etc. on your LS heads. For the price and the quality I couldnt complain if I wanted to. Works Great
The tool comes with no instructions
but if you have a shred of common sense and study the tool it is easy to figure out.
You will see its threaded at an angle, screw the bolt / forcing screw in and hold it on the head…
The bolt head is on the bottom against the cylinder head…just sayin
so you have a threaded rod pointing up to use the nut and washer on…
Does the angle look correct? great your good to go!
if not? uhm try flipping it over and reinstall the bolt, lol
Keeping the price point in mind…It works perfectly.
A big name brand tool such as the Comp Cams tool can be as high as $150.00
For the savings i will deal with a little awkwardness …
The aluminum spacer is the only real pain , Putting the bolts through the tool ,then through the spacer then screwing it down takes a couple times to get use to it.
Again price point comes into play , if i was doing 10 cars a day maybe a fancy tool would be quicker?
OIL or LUBE the forcing screw/nut and your good to go , I was able to do my spring swap with one forcing screw/nut with no noticeable wear.
It does come with a spare so im set for many more cars in the future if needed.

Does its job well but the supplied bolts suck
This compressor does its job well. But the supplied hardware is garbage. After one set of springs the nut on top that compresses the springs was stripped. And to make thing worse the nut was leaving metal shavings in the head when tightening the tool down. Went and got some Grade 8 bolts and nuts to replace the supplied ones and the tool worked flawlessly.

I figured I would save money when using this tool to change out my springs for a cam install in my LS3 engine.
Because of the way this tool is designed it took me almost 7 hours to change all of the springs in my engine.

It compresses springs
For removal of factory springs, works pretty good. Saves time removing 2 springs.
It was rather precarious (PNA) installing 2 springs simultaneously on Casting 317 heads, with lift rating 0.625″ and install 1.8″ height. Had to recenter several times on each pair, but thats easily done.
Keep the compression bolt lubricated, go slow, be safe. Just because it comes with 2 of those bolts doesnt mean you will need it. Its because they know nothing is idiot proof. You strip that bolt, its YOUR FAULT, and STUPID hurts sometimes. That T-Bar comes flying off, hits you in the face, its going to Hurt.
It got the job done, saved me some $$.

A little weak. Not thick enough to compress completely.
Bought this for my 6.2L, 2014 Sierra Denali. Putting in different springs. After 2 cylinders, arms on the spring side bent, its only about 1/8 of an inch thick. If it was 1/4 inch thick, it would probably be a great tool. Also it doesnt go down far enough to compress the stock springs completely. And as others have said, it stripped out the threads. If you put any after market springs with more pressure, this is definitely not going to work. Sometimes inexpensive means cheap.
Terrion April 19, 2021
Much cheaper than most others but just as effective!
Does the job well. Pay attention to the direction the compression bolt is installed, put a tiny amount of high quality grease on the threads (the long bolt, not the short ones), and make sure the skirt mount bolts are no tighter than a rocker mounting bolt and youre good to go!

Doesnt work on this 5.3L Engine
After doing what I thought was a through investigation this item does not work on my my Chevy 350 heads. The whole design is cheesy and really kind of crappy if you ask me. 1. The main screw – there is no way to stop it from spinning. why not have a notch washer and hex head to stop if from turning? – In this design I needed the offset to allow the springs to compress . I couldnt get enough travel for this to work. Either make the compression bracket with an offset – you could flip for 1 type or the other – just about a 3/8″ Step would have worked. – I didnt have anything on hand to create the offset so yes it still doesnt work.

Wrong tool
I have a 2012 chrysler 300 and this was not for my car I this is for gm or ford
Fabian dozieron July 20, 2021
Used multiple times and still like it.
Wasnt sure at first. After I actually used it, it replaced my old one. Only for LS and if used as it is supposed to be works great.

Great quality!
Did not crap out like other cheap kits. I used it on my 2016 Chevy SS Sedan.

Make the job easy
Great tool, good thing it came with an extra bolt for the compressing part of it. I remove the first set of springs. On my second set the nut seized on the bolt ended snapping the bolt. So with the extra bolt and nut provided and I use anti seize on the bolt I was able to do remaining springs. Use anti seize!

Cheap Quality
I used it and stripped so easy even using a socket it was stuck to the point i had to used my impact just to remove this from the heads poor tool

Does not work for L86 6.2 heads.
Nice tool, but does not work with GM L86 motor that is a 6.2.
Probably would work fine for the older LS motors.

Worked on 823 LS3 heads
No problems pulling threads or damaging bolts. Easy to use. Used for removal and installing dual springs.

Junk
For starters, I had to clean the threads up in the plate to even get the bolt to start. Then found it wouldnt wouldnt fit between my valve springs, so I had to grind the tool down. Aired up the cylinder and started compressing the springs and found it wouldnt compress the springs far enough to get the keepers out of the retainers. You definitely need to find a different tool, especially for a 243 casting Gen 3 LS head.

Works
Worked great on my 5.3 ls heads. Seems well made.

So much time saved
Way better to use this than the “loaner tool” at the local parts house. Easy to use and very handy

Great
Awesome tool, works really well. Would recommend to anyone doing valve springs on a ls based engine
Louis Corteseon December 27, 2021
works, just lube
You are putting a lot of force through this, just lube the threads every other spring set and you will be fine! works Great!
jonathon sissonon January 23, 2022
Didnt last nearly as long as I wouldve liked.
The concept is fairly straight forward, and I did read a few reviews here, I dont do a whole lot of LS head work, so I wasnt too worried about them meeting the needs of a production level shop or anything… but the nut stripped out on the last pair of springs while I was disassembling a couple (2) truck heads to clean them and get ready to install stiffer springs and what not.
as far as angles and what not, if you cannot figure out how this thing bolts up to the head to use correctly, you should not be working on your own vehicle(s), Ill probably end up drilling and tapping to a larger thread and maybe tack welding that in, well see.
Much easier and faster than the stupid C-clamp style compressors you rent from the parts store, so there is that.
But in terms of longevity, this thing as delivered is maybe good for one set of heads start to finish. Maybe.

Good tool for the money, got the job done
Overal a good tool for the money, if I was going to use it often I would probably buy a better long bolt and nuts to replace supplied ones. I changed all the seals on my 2010 suburban with this tool and really cant complain as it did what it was supposed to do. I bought the comp cams valve seals and saved the box from those to store the spring compressor tool in.

Works great
Great product. Put a set of pac 1219 springs on my 243 heads. Works like a champ doing both springs as opposed to the single spring compressors.

Is not compatible with 1st Gen 5.7 engines
Poor advertising lists my engine as compatible does not fit. I can drill it out and the tool will work. Why list my engine if it doesnt fit?
Joshua Prateron April 2, 2022
This will break after two springs
Cheap af bolts that will strip very quickly and might even snap had it happen wasnt using impact just a wrench trash order your self the Texas speed tool and save your self the trouble if you got the heads off just buy the clamp
Brandon hayson April 2, 2022
Save your cash and buy this tool instead
No need to spend $90+ on a good brand of valve spring compressor, this one works great. Used it on my 02 Z06 Corvette (LS6) and it was perfect.

Great buy
Used this for installing my TSP cam kit with duel valve springs. Worked great with no major issues. As a professional mechanic, I can definitely say it worked as it should. Only downside i can see is this not lasting for any more than a few cam swaps, even after oiling the threads multiple times the threads on the tool were starting to wear down. Either way, good buy and got what i needed done.

It works, not sure on longevity.
Worked well for two sets of Gen 3 heads so far, but the stress placed on the bolt, nut & washer during compression makes me question longevity of the tool. Overall, would recommend.

Use grease on threads!
More than adequate when used properly. Use grease on threads. It compressed my .560 lift spring with no problem whatsoever. I would say when used properly (many bad comments are from improper set up use) it should last for dozens if not several dozens of spring changes. For the price it cant be beat.
