Cannot see “clean-ish” fluid level on the silver aluminum dipstick
As one previous reviewer mentioned, it is very difficult to see the fluid level on the dipstick unless it is extremely dirty and black – like to the point where your transmission is going to fail tomorrow! Since I was changing my fluid before that point to attempt to preserve the transmission in a good operating state, the fluid was not dark enough to be easily seen on this dipstick. I had to shine a high intensity LED flashlight on it at a very specific angle and squint my eyes just right to see the fluid level. The fluid was by no means clear; it was definitely starting to turn black compared to the new fluid – just not to the point of extremely black and thick. Perhaps you could more easily see the fluid level on this dipstick with extremely dark thick gooey fluid, but it worked poorly for me.

After my job was done, I masked off the front half of the stick where the numbers are, and spray painted the back side with flat black paint. After drying, I dipped it in a leftover bottle of new fluid and was easily able to see the fluid on the stick on the spray painted back half. So I should be able to use this dipstick for the next transmission fluid change without having to squint and shine a flashlight on it just so. . .

My advice is to try the black stick or be willing to spray paint this one with flat black spray paint.

One other word of advice for any of the dipsticks that screw into a knurled handle. Use some Loctite Red and screw the stick into the handle. This should prevent the stick from coming unscrewed from the handle and falling into the transmission – which would make for a very bad day. New car.
